Green credentials
The lodges are made from timber and other materials only from sustainable sources. The sedum rooves not only enable the lodges to blend into their environment but act as an extra insulation layers on the roof working with double-insulated walls to keep the lodges warm in Winter and cool in Summer. Well designed use of glass in the construction not only affords guests the best of views but also allows maximum solar gain in the lodges.
A large natural aquifer provides the lodges with their own spring water supply and the very latest geo-thermal heating technology caters for all the hot water and underfloor heating needs of the accommodation.
Children at William
A 5 duckling child friendly property. Children will love the open spaces, the unusual teepee to play in, the tennis and boules opportunities aswell as the family barbeque area, the mountain bikes available on complimentary loan and even they might appreciate the luxury inside the lodges too. Older children may wish to take advantage of fishing opportunities on the lake. Families with very young children may need to watch children near the water and on one or two steep slopes around the site. Cot, highchair and fireguard are available on request free of charge.
A toddler occasional bed can be provided for a 7th guest for £25 (child only)
Dogs at William
*Due to an incident, on the lodge site, involving a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, it has been decided that the following breeds of dogs will not be allowed on site under any circumstances. We regret any inconvenience this may cause but we are primarily concerned with guest safety, especially children, and the welfare of other breeds which will be welcome in dog friendly lodges. Please follow the following link to further understand our reasoning:-

Location and Locality
Set close to the village of Easby in Swaledale and the beautiful Easby Abbey, North Yorkshire, William shares a 26 acre site with 2 lakes and 19 other lodges (of which 4 have come into the Country Retreats collection but for large groups we may be able to secure extra lodges on request) The whole site has been designed to embrace the environment so as well as planting a large number of indigenous species of trees on site, along with shrubs and wild flowers bird and bat boxes have been installed and an otter halt on the island has been created in the eastern lake. William faces south on the east lake of this site. There is ample parking nearby and access is good for wheelchairs.
Close to William is the historic town of Richmond and the natural beauty of the Yorkshire Dales and its villages beyond
Facilities and Activities
There are a number of shared facilities on site although William has its own private sitting and eating out area on a balcony. Extra facilities include a tennis court, mountain bikes, a boules pitch, fishing on site and a family barbecue area complete with teepee which can all be used by guests at no extra cost. For larger groups there is a party/dining/office room available for hire at a reasonable cost. Ideal for dinner parties, family gatherings, business workshops
Country Retreats Recommendation
Great for a family with children of any age looking for something a bit different but not wishing to compromise on comfort and style. A group of friends could all similarly be easily accomodated with flexible sleeping arrangements possible. We love the attention to detail in the interior design schemes and the feature wood burner is a real hit. Groups of up to 24 can be accommodated in the 4 lodges we feature on our site but if more accommodation is needed then we have access to booking some of the other properties here. Just ask for details
