Location and surrounding area
Heron House can be found in the historic village of Eglingham in the heart of rural Northumberland, the least densely populated county in England, with its outstanding co
untryside and stunning coastline. The village, with its fine Norman church, is both peaceful and remote, yet has a thriving country pub and restaurant. It lies in the sheltered valley of Eglingham Burn, a tributary of the River Aln and is set amidst rolling countryside, within five miles of the Cheviot Hills.
The county town of Alnwick, with its famous "Harry Potter Castle" and award winning Alnwick Garden, shops, supermarkets and restaurants, a leisure centre, swimming pool and theatre is only a ten minute drive away. The beautiful and unspoilt Northumberland coastline is just 11 miles away. The whole of the Northumberland area is renowned for its natural beauty, wildlife and unpoilt sandy beaches.
Step outside of the back door of Heron House and enjoy great walking. Bring or hire bikes for great cycling. There is also horse riding, numerous golf courses and fishing opportunities close by.
For enthusiasts of archeology the earliest record of human occupation in Eglingham include many burial sites and a number of Iron Age settlements are evident, including a promontory fort just west of the village.
The Northumberland National Park, which covers a tapestry of open moorland, burns, woodland, meadows and wide river valleys is just six miles away.
Recommendations
Ideal for 2 families or a group of people wishing to take advantage of all that the Northumberland countryside has to offer. This would make a superb family gathering house, ideal for a 'home from home' Christmas or New Year! Also makes an excellent base for cycling and walking activities.

'A lovely house, well equipped and great for kids. Loved the beanbags for the little ones. Beautiful countryside and ideally placed to see all of the sites
we wanted to get to. Embleton bay, is close by and a must see. We are on our way there again as we loved it.'
'What a great location and house. Thanks to the owners, Val and Tony for providing all of the ‘little’ things that make the difference. You can do a number of nice walks from the house, which at this time of the year, were stunning. We will be back.'
'Heron House provided us with the most beautiful base to explore Northumberland. The house itself did not disappoint and is furnished to the highest stan
dard. Low
'Fantastic house and lovely setting. Our first trip to Northumberland. We found plenty to do, though not enough time. We will have to return. The children loved loved the water gardens at Alnwick and we loved the coastal walks and castles.'
